I THE ELUSIVE AWAY TOURS
2017 was a highly entertaining and successful year for Indian cricket, but it did not take a trained eye to notice how the team played only in the subcontinent throughout. What others found to be timid, might actually pan out to be clever planning, as India travel to South Africa, England and Australia in 2018, a year prior to the World cup to be held in England. 2018 promises to be a visual treat for Indian fans. It will be interesting to see how the players adapt their techniques to the changing conditions away from home in 2018, and remains to be seen if they can stamp authority of the same accord. Who doesn’t love a challenge? One so visually spectacular?
II PREPARATIONS FOR THE WORLD CUP
India has been dominant for quite a while in world cricket, and would hope to get rewarded for it by winning the coveted cricket world cup scheduled in 2019. With a year and a half to go for the mega event, every step that the team takes will all be made with 2019 in mind. Prepare yourself to see a solid XI form itself in the ODI format, with some surprise inclusions and exclusions by the end of the year. The busy season promises to bring excitement, as the world cup preparations have well and truly began.
III MS DHONI UNDER THE SCANNER
The former Indian skipper has already written himself into the record books of Indian cricket, and is a monumental figure cherished in the country. But, he finds himself with polarizing decisions to make, as much flak has been directed at the man who is at the alleged winter’s moon of his career. His decision, if any, to retire from international cricket, will have to be in 2018, if India is to find a decent replacement for the enigmatic legend before the 2019 mega event. After a great 2017, one would be a fool to write off MSD, who continues to amaze the cricketing fraternity.

IV IPL – NEW HORIZONS WITH NEW OUTFITS
The Indian Premier League musters interest from all corners of the world. The glitz and glamour when paired up with the sheer talent on offer, entices a large amount of people. With 10 seasons of IPL complete, the 11th season promises to bring something new, as franchises have stricter regulations as far as player retentions are concerned. This means there would be a greater amount of talent on offer in the player auctions, both international and domestic, which directly influences the quality of games we will witness.
The return of CSK and RR to IPL also increases the excitement we associate with the T20 league.
V THE YOUNGSTERS- FORGING FUTURE CHAMPS
There were a lot of raised eyebrows when Washington Sundar, took the chances he got and played well in Indian colours. The same applied to Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, who were picked for India after quality contributions in IPL. Shardul Thakur has been picked for the proteas tour after a strong domestic season. Who else will make it to the fray for spots in 2018? Faiz Fazal, who led Vidarbha to their maiden Ranji title? Rajneesh Gurbani, who scapled a hattrick in the finals of the Ranji Trophy? Or will it be someone new, set to take the world by storm?
We’ll have to wait and see.
