Ashwin has stepped right into the history books by becoming the fastest bowler in the history of the game to pick up 300 test wickets. There is a lot more about this all rounder than what meets the eye! So here are some more reasons why Ravi Ashwin is just awesome.

I – Ashwin – India’s Big Match Player

It is no secret that Ashwin is India’s sharpest arrow in the test quiver. When Ashwin strikes, he strikes big! He has already bagged 26 five wicket hauls and 7 ten wicket hauls from 101 innings which means he has had a match winning impact in atleast one out of every four games he’s played.

II – Extensive Bag Of Tricks

Ashwin has never been idle and has been on a constant endeavor to raise his global stock. The master of the ‘Sodukku’ ball always seems to have plenty of tricks up his sleeve. The stock off spinner , an extremely deceptive slider, a subtle carom ball and a few canny leg spinners are some of the many potent weapons the ace bowler is capable of summoning at his will. Extracting steep bounce because of his height, this wily wizard is virtually unplayable with these nonchalant variations.

III – Crusader Of Many Roles

Jersey number 99 has seen different situations facing various contingencies and there has always been a way out, virtue of this virtuoso. Ashwin is perhaps the most lethal bowler in test cricket with 186 wickets in the last 3 years. Switch to blue and he plays an entirely different role with an economy of 4.92 and 150 scalps. He also has 100 wickets in the IPL at an economy of 6.55 which is highly impressive.

IV – All Rounder When It Mattered The Most

The once Tamil Nadu opener has put in consistent efforts with the bat and has been India’s rear guard hero on several occasions. 2051 runs at an average of 31.5 comprising of four centuries and eleven half centuries is no lean feat, especially since he had to bat with a frail tail end. Ashwin’s batting meant both Dhoni and Kohli could be more aggressive with their bowling options, getting an extra man in.

V – Forever ‘namma’ Ashwin

There is no doubt Ashwin has reached dizzying heights. And yet he has always stayed deeply rooted with his hometown. Having represented his home franchise in the IPL for eight years, frequently turning up for the Tamil Nadu team and TNPL or just mentoring kids at his cricket institute in Chennai, the home fans have always enjoyed a certain connect with this West Mambalam lad who shall forever remain “Namma” Ashwin.
