The group stage of this edition’s TNPL has come to a close and we witnessed some star stuff on the field. The tournament has brought out a lot of young talents from the state, who have stepped up when the occasion called for it. With only the playoffs left to be played, here are our top 5 performers from the second half of the group stage.

I                  KB Arun Karthik

Arun Karthik made his first class debut for Tamil Nadu in 2008 and has played for two other states since then. The right hand opener has really come to the party in the second half of the tournament. He has scored 170 runs in the latter half of the tournament at an incredible average of 85 and a strike rate of 171. He was instrumental in Madurai’s wins against Ruby Trichy Warriors and Karaikudi Kaalai as he scored 80* and 85* respectively.

II                Xavier Thalaivan Sargunam

Thalaivan Sargunam played an important role in Chepauk Super Gillies’s title win last year. He played two crucial knocks in the second half of the group stage to help Madurai secure a spot in the playoffs for the first time in three years. He single-handedly won them the game against VB Kanchi Veerans by scoring 62 off 40 deliveries and he followed it up with a 70 off just 36 deliveries against Ruby Trichy Warriors which eventually helped his team to come out victorious. He has scored 147 runs at a strike rate of 154.73 in their last four games.

III                Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan has been the backbone of Lyca Kovai King’s batting line-up along with Abhinav Mukund. Shahrukh has found his touch in the second half the tournament and Lyca Kovai Kings will be hoping that he would be able to do the same in the playoffs. He stood out in the run chase against Ruby Trichy Warriors as he scored 67 off just 40 deliveries as they made quick work of a low total posted by their opponents. In the following game against Chepauk Super Gillies, he scored 59 to help Kovai win the game comfortably as their bowlers had enough runs to bowl to. He has scored 166 runs at a strike rate of 138.33 in the latter half of the group stage.

IV                   Aushik Srinivas

Aushik Srinivas is one of the few good things to have worked out for VB Kanchi Veerans this season. Aushik was phenomenal in their lone victory of the season against Lyca Kovai Kings in a low scoring thriller. Defending 116, he opened the bowling from one end for Kanchi. He removed both the openers, Abhinav Mukund and Shahrukh khan, in the 4th over in the space of 3 balls. In his second spell, he removed Venkataraman in the last ball of the 18th over to finish with figures of 3 for 12 in his 4 overs. He picked up 8 wickets in the final stages of the tournament at an economy rate of 6.56 per over

V                  S Ajith Ram

Ajith Ram has been part of the franchise ever since its inception in 2016. He was retained by the team during the draft this year and is having an exceptional season and has made the batsmen work for their runs. He was at his best against VB Kanchi Veerans when he opened the bowling from one end and got opener S Siddharth in the second over of the game. He then came back later in the innings to cause more destruction to Kanchi’s batting line up as he picked up two in two balls in his final over to finish with figures of 3 for 16 in his four overs. He has picked up 8 wickets in the second half of the season at a very economical rate of 6.12  per over.
