We are into the second week of the much awaited Tamil Nadu Premier League and it has had its own share of thrilling matches. Madurai has picked up their first win since the inception of the tournament and new stars are coming to the limelight with every game that is being played. With the first quarter of the tournament done and dusted, these are our 5 star performers in this edition’s TNPL.

I                 Narayan Jagadeesan:

N Jagadeesan is one of the most prolific batsman in Tamil Nadu. He has already proved himself in the TNPL by scoring a lot of runs in the previous two editions. Jagadeesan has managed to replicate the same in this year’s edition of TNPL too. He has scored 183 runs at a strike rate of 134.55 and has only been dismissed twice in the four matches that have been played by Dindugal Dragons. Interestingly enough, Dindugal Dragons lost the one game where Jagadeesan had failed to perform. With more than half of the games yet to be played in the tournament, Jagadeesan is well on course to bag another ‘Man of the Tournament’ award.

II                  Kaushik Gandhi:

Kaushik Gandhi is a very familiar name in the domestic circuit. He made his first class debut in the year 2011 and has not looked back ever since. He was the highest run getter for Tuti Patriots in the inaugural edition of TNPL, scoring 366 runs in their title winning season and scored 297 runs in the second edition. He was once again picked by Tuti Patriots in the third edition and scored a breath-taking century in their opening league game against VB Kanchi Warriors. He scored 111 n.o. at a staggering strike rate of 163.24 and helped them win the game by 48 runs. He has scored 165 runs at an average of 82.5 and a strike rate of 160.19 in the first three games of their campaign.

III                    Chandrasekar Ganapathy:

Chandrasekar Ganapathy was one of the key figures in Tamil Nadu’s revival after the team suffered for two seasons due to ICL defections. He had played one match in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings back in 2010. The veteran brought all his experience to the party in the third game of this year’s TNPL against Chepauk Super Gillies. He smashed 3 sixes and 2 fours in the five balls that he faced to take Ruby Trichy Warriors to a total of 180. He then followed it up with an amazing opening spell, picking up three wickets including both their openers. He then came back in the final overs to pick up two more wickets to finish with figures of 5 for 19.

IV          V Athisayaraj Davidson:

V Athisayaraj Davidson is called the ‘Malinga’ of Tamil Nadu. With a slinging arm action, he picked up 15 wickets for Tuti Patriots in the previous edition of the TNPL. In the three matches that Tuti patriots have played this season, he has taken 7 wickets at an economy of 8.08, at an average of 13.85. He was pivotal in their victory against Lyca Kovai kings as he picked up 3 wickets in the game and also dismissing the dangerous Ravi Kumar Rohit in the 18th over to hand their opponents an 11 run defeat.

V         Prasanth Rajesh:

Picked up by Lyca Kovai Kings this year, Prasanth Rajesh has not failed to impress the selectors. In the first match of their campaign against Karaikudi Kaalai, the debutant showed composure as he picked up 3 wickets at a very crucial time to restrict Karaikudi to just 162, also picking up the wicket of Maan Baafna, who was striking the ball all around the park. Lyca Kovai Kings went on to win the game in a thrilling Super Over. Rajesh has picked up 7 wickets in 4 matches at an economy of 7.97 and an average of 15.57.
